Jake Anthony Monteiro, 21, of Oceanport, passed away on April 22, 2018. He was born November 19, 1996 in Long Branch to Tony and Maria Monteiro. He graduated from Shore Regional High School in 2015, where he currently holds the record for best statistical kicker in the Blue Devil's history.
Jake loved music and was an incredible guitar player. Night after night, in his favorite yellow velvet chair, Jake would practice until he got the song right — and then just as quickly, turn up the amp and make up his own melody. If you were lucky enough, Jake would sit you down and perform a private concert, sharing everything he knew about the song he was playing on one of his many beloved guitars or the brown record player he was always "borrowing" from his mother.
Jake is survived by his parents, Tony and Maria Monteiro, and his sister, Kaitlyn. He also leaves behind his maternal grandparents, Antonio Silva of Palm Coast, Florida and Maria Silva of Murtosa, Portugal, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Jake was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Joaquim and Natalia Monteiro of Batalha, Portugal.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 26 from 5-8 pm at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. in Long Branch. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 11 am at St Dorothea RC Church, 240 Broad St. in Eatontown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Jake's memory to the Choir School of Asbury Park (www.choirschoolap.org), P.O. Box 1405, Asbury Park, NJ 07712. The Choir School is an organization that serves young people through after school music and education, empowering them to reach their unique potential and contribute to a better world.
